A Message from the Principal

Welcome to the Viewbank Primary School website. We hope you find the information it contains helpful. Should there be anything about the school that you wish to clarify or discuss further, please do not hesitate to phone me, contact me via the school's email address, or come in for a chat.

The staff and parents of Viewbank Primary School have a strong commitment to creating a school environment which values caring for each other, respect and responsibility. We are also focused on enhancing the strong partnership between the home and school. We strive to develop each individual child's potential in all curriculum areas. We also emphasise the development of resilience in children through participation in a myriad of experiences promoting confidence, persistence, organisation, and getting along.

It is timely to remind everyone that Friday, August 14 is a pupil free day for the purposes of the professional development of staff. There will be no classes for students on that day, and before and after school care will not be operational. This is a common curriculum day to be held with staff from Watsonia North Primary School and facilitated by Wayne Craig, former Regional Director of the Northern Metropolitan region. The Powerful Learning and Teaching framework has strongly influenced our teaching and learning practices over the last four years and we continue to remain committed to implementing the strategies forming part of this approach.

I thought it would be good to give everyone the ‘heads-up’ on how these will look early next year. These celebrations are set down for Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 11.00am until 5.30pm. Rooms will be open for viewing with ‘Decades’ rooms for each of the 6 decades highlighting memorabilia from each of these. School Captains will be asked to conduct tours of the whole school on the half hour with Audio Visual displays happening in the Hall – concert videos and other video footage on a continuous reel. BBQ and refreshments will be available with Jumping Castles on the oval for the really little kids!!. It is planned to have an Official Ceremony at 2.00pm featuring ex-students, the Mayor, Principal/s, the Opening of the 1991 Time Capsule (if we can ever find it!) and the burial of a 2016 Time Capsule. Musical performances featuring past and present students will be happening throughout the day and hopefully we will be able to timetable ‘I graduated from Viewbank in the 60s/70s etc photographs’ in decade rooms between 3pm and 4pm. Refreshments and tables will be set up in the gym foyer and gym for groups to sit, chat and reminisce. For now, please keep the date free and if you have any information on famous alumni, or any photographs from days gone by we’d love to hear from you!!
