A Message from the Principal

Welcome to the Viewbank Primary School website. We hope you find the information it contains helpful. Should there be anything about the school that you wish to clarify or discuss further, please do not hesitate to phone me, contact me via the school's email address, or come in for a chat.

The staff and parents of Viewbank Primary School have a strong commitment to creating a school environment which values caring for each other, respect and responsibility. We are also focused on enhancing the strong partnership between the home and school. We strive to develop each individual child's potential in all curriculum areas. We also emphasise the development of resilience in children through participation in a myriad of experiences promoting confidence, persistence, organisation, and getting along.

After 27 years as a teacher at Viewbank PS, Christine Merlo hangs up her school satchel on the last day of 2015 and commits to her retirement from the teaching service. Chris graduated from State College Of Victoria – Toorak in the early 1980s and was appointed to Stawell Primary School where she taught until the end of 1986. Due to family commitments she did not take up her next appointment to Viewbank PS until 1989, an appointment that will see her complete her 27th year this year. Chris has been a Leading Teacher, Reading Recovery teacher and Grade Prep-2 teacher over the course of her career, and has the respect of her peers and numerous families whose children have been taught by her, and whilst she is understandably sad to be retiring, in her words ‘the time is right’. Chris has always been understated and in typical fashion does not want a grandiose retirement function. Nevertheless, I know a word or two of gratitude for a job well done before the last day of the school year would not go unwelcomed.

The biennial Art Show is scheduled for Thursday, December 3 with work of every student in the school on display in the school hall from 3.30pm – 7.30pm. We hope you can find a few hours to set aside to visit because an enormous amount of work has been undertaken to ensure the displays are ‘right’ for the night!!

One of our major Fundraisers for 2015 is our Walkathon. On, Wednesday 18th November all Viewbank Primary School students took part in this annual event completing laps around the perimeter of the school. All monies raised will go towards additional playground equipment.

All students were rewarded with an icy pole back at school after the completion of the walk. As an incentive, the class that raises the most money per capita will be rewarded with a sausage sizzle lunch, cooked by Master Chef Bill Kersing, later in the term.

Sponsorship forms and monies need be returned to school by Friday, November 27.

Monies AND forms need to be returned together.

As always, we could not hold an activity such as this without the support of our parents, both financially and on the day. Thank you to everyone who assisted on the day by walking with your children, acting as a course marshall, hole punching cards after each lap, or simply cheering on our students we would be very grateful for your assistance.

Please support this major fundraiser, as it is the only one of its kind in 2015, and we do rely on fundraising to support equipment purchases, which in turn support your child’s education.

Thank you,

The Parents and Friends Association
