WORLD TEACHERS DAY

Please join with us to celebrate and thank the teaching profession on World Teachers’ Day on Friday 29 October 2021. It is an opportunity to take a moment to recognise the passion of teachers and how teaching has extended beyond the classroom in maintaining connections through remote learning.

Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families, and communities.

All our teachers at Viewbank are highly valued and deserve a HUGE thank you. We certainly appreciate their professionalism, dedication and the energy and commitment they bring to their role.

We are proud to celebrate being part of teaching and its bright future.

Please take the time to say ‘thank you’ to your child’s teacher.

Return to school plan – Metropolitan Melbourne/Restricted Areas

As you will be aware, there is a staggered return to on site learning commencing from the start of week 3 – that is October 18, as follows:-

Capture.PNG

Each week will be a bit of a logistical exercise managing staffing, sifting through requests for onsite supervision, ensuring those grade levels that are permitted on site know the precise days, monitoring gates and so on, but with everyone’s cooperation we have proven we can manage this and we will continue to do so!!

For NEXT week, the week commencing October 11, learning remains remote for all students EXCEPT those who have applied for onsite supervision through the normal application processes. The application form for families who have been approved to attend in the past will be emailed directly today – if anyone else believes their circumstances have changed and they may need their children supervised onsite, please contact the General Office on 9459-1512, or email me.

PMPLAND

Unfortunately, Viewbank Primary School's final Term 3 Transition event has been cancelled. Instead of our traditional ‘face to face’ session we have recorded a virtual PMPland. During our virtual ‘PMPLand’ we share a fun obstacle course with you, while also showing you around our amazing school. We hope you enjoy the video!

MATHSLAND- Foundation Transition 2022

Unfortunately, Viewbank Primary School's second Transition event has been cancelled. Instead of our traditional ‘ ace to face’ session we have recorded a virtual Mathsland. During Mathsland we sing the 'Days of the Week' song, read 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and model multiple ways for you to complete a caterpillar pattern craft. We hope you enjoy the video! In case you haven’t seen our other Transition event ‘Storyland’ can be found on our school website. ‘PMPland’ will be the final event in the series, which will be available soon.

We want our parents, caregivers and guardians to tell us what they think!

Viewbank Primary school is conducting a survey to find out what parents, caregivers and guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of parents, caregivers and guardians (previously known as the Parent Opinion Survey). It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learning. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year, the Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 19th July to Sunday 22nd August.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. Please look out for the link that will be published on Compass and via email. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.

Please speak to the Acting Assistant Principal Karen Butler if you would like more information.

STORY LAND - Foundation Transition 2022

Unfortunately, our first Transition event for students starting Foundation in 2022 has been cancelled. Instead of our traditional ‘face to face’ Story Land session we have moved this process online as we couldn’t wait for Transition Events to begin. Story Land is our first of three Transition ‘Lands'. It is always a favourite with the students. Mrs. Kelsey Mentiplay (Team leader) and Mrs. Amanda Elliott (Transition Co-ordinator) are reading one of our favourite stories 'Oi Frog' by Kes Gray + Jim Field.

CONTACTING STAFF DURING REMOTE LEARNING

We realise that some of the challenges for you are around contacting staff for assistance and advice. Please note, for parents, and unless otherwise specified, you are NOT to contact staff through Google Classrooms. Google Classrooms is primarily for communication between staff and students. You can, however, contact classroom teacher staff through the information provided to you from one of the team leaders on Tuesday afternoon/evening, and to the specialist teachers in the communication sent via Compass this afternoon. This will be to an email address that ends in ***@viewbankps.vic.edu.au (please see the information provided) . We also have a staff member in the Office to answer phone calls, and you can of course send an email to viewbank.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au and this will be forwarded on to the appropriate person.

WINSTON ROAD – TRAFFIC

A reminder that NO PARKING signs mean that you can only park your car in that particular zone for up to 2 minutes to deliver/pick up goods and/or passengers. The driver must remain near the vehicle at all times. Whilst most of our community adheres to this parking regulation, there have been some considerable variations to ‘2 minutes’ and ‘near’. I can confirm that parking officers will be in attendance in upcoming weeks to assist in enforcing these regulations, which ultimately protect our students and yourselves.
